A Guide To Buying Boys' Ties
Ages 13 And Under
Here at TieMart, our children's ties are sized for kids from baby to pre-teen, depending on style. (For most boys 13 years and older we recommend a men's tie.) Let's take a look at buying boys' ties.
Step 1: Choosing the Type Of Boys' Tie
The first step of purchasing a boys' tie is deciding which style you want for your child. Our children's ties come in five styles: Clip-on ties, zipper ties, bow ties, standard ties and skinny ties. The style available for your child may depend on his age, so pay particular attention to the recommended age.

Step 2: Measuring For Your Boys' Ties
Our boys' bow ties, standard ties and skinny ties come in one size so measuring typically isn't necessary, but age range and size of the child are key. Our clip-on ties come in an 8-inch, 11-inch and 14-inch lenght, while our zipper ties are available in 11-inch and 14-inch lengths. It is best to take a moment to measure before placing your order on these ties to get the right size tie the first time. We provide age references on all of our boys' ties, but children come in many sizes at every age. If your child is shorter or taller than the other boys, you definitely need to measure.
Boys' Bow Tie
Our boys' bow ties only come in one size. The pre-tied band collar expands to fit most children from baby to 10-years. For older boys we typically recommend a man's size bow tie.
Boys' Clip-On Tie
Our boys' clip-on ties come in three lengths, 8", 11" or 14". Measure the child from the collar to the waist line of the pants. Choose the size that is closest in length to your measurement.
Boys' Standard Tie
Our boys' standard ties only come in one size for most children 8- to 13-years old. These ties measure 48-inches long, which is typically the correct length needed for this age range. If your child is on the smaller size for this age range, we recommend considering a boys' clip-on tie instead. For taller boys in this age range, we suggest a men's necktie.
Boys' Zipper Tie
Our boys' zipper ties come in two lengths, 11" or 14". Measure the child from the collar to the waist line of the pants. Choose the size that is closest in length to your measurement.
Boys' Skinny Tie
Our boys' skinny ties are the same length as our standard ties, just in a trendy 2" width. These ties come in one size for most children 8- to 13-years old. If your child is on the smaller size for this age range, we recommend considering a boys' clip-on tie instead. For taller boys in this age range, we suggest a men's necktie.
Step 3: Care Of Neckties Worn By Boys
Whether they're playing in dirt or slopping food all over themselves, these instructions should help increase the life of a child's necktie.
Washing instructions for our boys' ties: Our signature polyester ties can be hand washed. We washed a white and hot pink tie that we ground dirt into and let set for 1 day. Using these instructions, the ties came out looking almost as good as new.
- Spray stains with a stain pre-treatment.
- Hand wash in cold water.
- Dry low heat, 30 minutes maximum.
- If tie is still damp, allow to hang dry.
Your results may vary based on the the stain and length of time the stain has set. These ties are not meant to be washed repeatedly, and it's always best to check the tie care tag before washing.
Ironing instructions for our boys' ties: Our boys' ties can be ironed by an adult using the synthetic or next highest setting. For heavy creases, move the iron on this setting slowly over the crease and it should come out shortly. For a heavier crease, iron it using the silk setting.
