How To Fold A Three Point Pocket Square

Man wearing a suit, white button down and striped pocket square folded with 3 points

Go a step further with the three point fold. This pocket square fold is perfect for when you want to add a bit of flair to your attire. This is a fold you can wear any way you want: Casually without a tie, to the office with a suit and tie or on your wedding day.

Get your fingers ready. You're just seven steps away from adding this pocket square fold to your jacket. As a reference, we’re using a 12-inch by 12-inch pocket square in our guide.

Step 1

Lay the pocket square unfolded and flat.

Step 2

Fold the pocket square in half lengthwise. (Skip this step for smaller sized pocket squares, if preferred.)

Step 3

Fold the pocket square in half again so that you have a small square. (Skip this step for smaller sized pocket squares, if preferred.)

Note: This and the following images have been enlarged to show the folds up close and are not the same scale as the first two photos.

Step 4

Rotate the square so it looks like a diamond.

Step 5

Fold the bottom tip of the diamond to the top tip, but slightly off center.

Step 6

Fold the bottom left corner of the pocket square diagonally up at an angle, so you have three points side by side, as equally spaced and sized as possible.

Step 7

Fold the bottom right corner across to the left edge of the folded pocket square.

Final Notes

Now that you've folded the pocket square, simply slide it into your jacket pocket. Only the three tips of the fold should be seen peeking out.

Have you noticed that all suit jackets are not created equal? You may find your pocket to be narrow, shallow or deep. Adjust accordingly by tucking your pocket square in a bit more or less.

The three point fold can take a few tries to line up the points neatly, so don’t give up! We find that using an iron creates crisp creases that help the pocket square hold its shape, which we recommend for those formal occasions or important business meetings.
